The issue of Global Warming

The facts of the matter are that if something isn't done to arrest global warming in the very near future entire populations from Islands such as Tokelau and Tuvalu will have to relocate to other parts of the world. Of course this would be a great loss to the people themselves but even more so a loss to the world as with intergration the beautiful and unique cultures, language and music and dance of these tiny Islands would eventually disappear. There are many reasons for global warming - both internal and external it would seem, but one thing is sure - awareness on all levels needs to increase and WE need to do something about it.

Seeing that the island of Tuvalu (where is mother comes from), is actually disappearing, has been the catalyst to his latest mission: to find a solution to the sinking Islands.

Through the increasing profile of Te Vaka, Opetaia hopes to bring to the attention of not only the world leaders but the people of the Pacific Islands themselves that action is needed now, for in 10 to 20 years time it will be too late.

Te Vaka plans to tour the Islands of the Pacific in the near future. Meanwhile, Ope and the band welcome any ideas, contributions suggestions, solutions, etc that may help counteract the effects of global warming. Please email
